Isn't it an Amish belief that only God can create perfection and so they make a small mistake in their quilts to remind themselves of this. This may be an older belief and seen in older quilts.

There is a term--wabisabi- -that refers to something that maybe chipped, worn, dinked or dented, but it still has use and value. Barbara is right, the student did not deserve such a treasure.

They need to find a way to remove that (I need to do everything perfectly DNA) and this world will be a better happier place. Almost every one of us has it. I loved the story.
