If you watched Stitched, the Film, then you'll know what it's like to submit an entry into the Houston International Quilt Festival. This is the very first Best of Show winner (1980). It is Royal Palm by Laverne Mathews. It is a traditional Hawaiian quilt. Her design source was folded paper cut designs. It was hand appliquéd and quilted.

Laverne was an art teacher who loved traditional quilts. Click here to see another one of her beauties.
