An Old Woman with a Joyous Face, by Marina Landi (with Natasha de Souze Burgarin) of Sao Paulo, Brazil, won the World of Beauty Award at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018. The expression on the woman's face brought great joy to all who saw the quilt.

 

Artist's Statement: "I was enchanted with the photo of this beautiful lady an reproduced it in silk using the technique of contemporary mosaic, adapting it so that I could do it using fabrics instead of marble." (Based on a photo by Rarindra Prakarsa, used with permission).
