Hometown of Kirara by Ayako Kawakami was part of the Appliqué, Large, section of the Houston International Quilt Festival. Kirara's grandfather was a fisherman. The quilt recreates a magnificent New Year's ceremony of hanging a "big-catch" flag on boats.

The appliqué work, details, and embroidery are exquisite. There is something to look at in every inch of this quilt.

The Japanese ladies make such incredible quilts. Unlimited patience. They always look like they took forever to make.
