Jenny Bowker tells the emotional story of her quilt, After the Last Sky. It is a tribute to the victims of the Rabaa Square Massacre in Cairo, August 14, 2013. The quilt acknowledges photojournalists risking their lives to show the truth.

Jenny's quilt won 2nd Place - People, Portraits, and Figures at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018.

See photos of the quilt after the video.

there is more to this wonderful quilt--the title is from a poem by Mahmoud Darwish--and you may even had heard it quoted--here is the excerpt
Where should the birds fly after the last sky
Where should the plants sleep after the last breath of air?
The poem is 'The Earth is Closing on Us'

Incredible on so many levels and reasons. What a tribute to those people Jennifer has created. And this is how you quilt anguish. I was reduced to tears.

Never seen anything like this quilt. What a tribute to the people of this experience. It's sure nice to know that there are people out there; who really understand and care. Unusual and beautiful piece of are, for this case.

This quilt is a masterpiece in story telling which challenges the safe environments in which we are privileged to live. Thankyou Jenny for tellling this story which is one of many that go unknown throughout the wider world.

I had the pleasure to attend a trunk show with Jenny, just this past September. To listen to the stories behind her art quilts puts them in first place every time. A remarkable woman who has lived a remarkable life... and remains one of the most humble people I know. Bi am proud to be a fellow Aussie!

I am proud just to live in the same city as Jenny. I took a class with her years ago on machine quilting. She encouraged me to try and I have had great fun with it. I will never produce anything like this but it reminds me of what it is to be human with both the depths and heights. Thanks Jenny for your beautiful quilts and your reminders of our humanity.

Such a powerful expression of anguish. This is what art is meant to do. Heartbreaking.

So passionate. Every stitch, every piece of fabric. Truly a masterpiece expressing the anguish and terror of the moment.
Brilliant work.
Thanks Jenny

Amazing but it makes the statement that the world has become a much more dangerous place than when I travelled it many years ago.
