First published in 1814, Werner’s Nomenclature of Colours is a taxonomic guide to the colours of the natural world. It can be viewed as a predecessor of modern named colour systems such as Pantone. What's wonderful about it are the descriptions of the colors by animal, vegetable, and mineral.

Click here to go to the guide.

When you click on a color, it will show you images of nature which include the color.

Through the years technology has pushed the limited with colors and even the way we read today. Looking back on this article was amazing looking at the truest richness in color. I am a very colorful person. I am just not talking about neon pinks and blues. I am more of the hues that make the colors today. Thank you for sharing this article and a glimpse into the past.
