Capt'n John - "Okay, I'm not a quilter but I've seen a lot of quilts. I loved this quilt that was featured at the Antique Quilt Exhibit called "Southern Splendor" in Spring Paducah 2018. However, I have never seen a border like this. Was this a completely original design or is this an established historical pattern?"

Looks like a quilt as you go with several changes in quilting direction. Nice work, maybe several quilters working on a square.

I agree with Jerie, It was added on, but by whom? Even the quilting lines son't align....but it is spectacular, isn't it!

I wonder if it was meant to represent something - it looks like one of those edgings of a garden bed, but I'm not sure they used those in the olden days. It looks like the top and bottom would hang down from the horizontal surface.

It looks as if it had been shortened. Maybe original edge was worn?

This is interesting. I must confess my first thought that it is like something I would do - realize that it was not big enough for its intended use and add on something to make it larger. Possibly this was done by someone else as it does not seem to match exactly. I am no expert, this is just my take.
