Karlee's quilt, Disparity, won 1st Place Surface Design in Houston 2017. The subject matter is not something you might typically find in a quilt. Karlee writes, "This piece is my statement on the idea that beauty can come even from within the darkest of places." We believe that as well, Karlee's quilt is absolutely beautiful.

And once again, art lovers and interior decorators choose sides. I completely understand the message she was conveying and can’t imagine a more exacting image than a skull to show the ‘disparity’.

How does one overlook the skull in the middle of what started out to be a fantastic art quilt? Her quilting and artistry is very beautiful, but really a skull?

Fabulous work, Karlee! I have admired your work since I found you and purchased one of your patterns. No matter what the "critical" viewers say, stay true to yourself and keep on creating. Afterall, yours is the quilt that won, not theirs.

I think those who are critical of the skull might be missing the entire point. I love it. Someone else loved it so much they bought it at the show!
