Collector and author Bill Volckening shares the story behind a very bright polyester quilt from the 1970s in this Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! video from the Quilt Alliance. It's construction is quite unique.

I inherited several bags of double-knit quilt pieces from her & am slowly making quilts from them.
And yes, the quilts are extremely warm & do not need any batting.
