A wonderful traditional appliqué design will surprise you when you get up close. Judy Mathieson was the featured artist at Quilting in the Garden in 2012. Her quilts looked fantastic up in the 400-year-old oaks and in front of the garden center. This quilt was a big favorite and a delight to all who stepped just a little closer (scroll down)...

Have you put any surprises in your quilts?

Similar to Florence Peto nine patch plus appliques in vintage fabrics. Love the fussy-cut fabrics! Altogether rather marvelous, Judy--my congratulations .

How cute is that! I love it! And it is such a beautiful quilt from a distance. :-)

As a dog and animal lover, I love this quilt. What a beautiful sneaky way to put this in.

I LOVE this quilt! I do a lot of dog themed and pet themed quilts, usually for raffles to benefit Breed clubs and Rescue groups. My friends are often bringing back animal themed fabrics from their travels to donate to me and I sometimes struggle for patterns in which to use them. This is a perfect idea.I can already see the next Siberian Husky quilt in my mind.

Adding "pieces or a piece of delight" is one of Judy's AWESOME trademarks.
