Thanks Friends, by Eriko Kubo of Nagoya, Japan, won an Honorable Mention for a first time entry into the show at QuiltWeek® – Spring Paducah, Kentucky, 2018. We can certainly see why. We love all of the different types of baskets she created and the appliqué and embroidery in the blocks and borders is just exquisite. Did we mention the hand quilting?

I am so amazed at the detail of each and every Japanese work of art I have seen. Just gorgeous!

Really?? Is it any wonder why some quilters don't enter their quilts into a show? Since this only got Honorable Mention, I hate to think what it takes to place.

Daisies are my favorite, but all her flowers are lovely as are the baskets to hold them!

why only honorable mention? Look at the hours of love and creativity and pricked fingers in this one! so many are glitzy and mechanical now, nothing wrong with that, but this one is warm and representative of a long line of hand quilters... I know, I'm an old fuddy duddy, but maybe we should split them up: hearth and home style, and modern... otherwise we seem to be comparing apples and oranges sometimes, eh?
