Kathryn Zimmerman's Dogwood Winter (quilted by Valerie Wagner) took 1st place at Old Man River Quilt Fest in small wallhanging category. Also, 1st place ribbon, at the Minnesota Quilters Quilt Show and 2nd Place at Spring Paducah. Kathryn says the quilt was "Originally designed for a quilt competition in which I misinterpreted the theme from "Two Fabrics" to Two Colors. Dogwood Winter reminds me of the blueish colors of the Appalachian Mountains on a cold frosty morning in May when the dogwoods are in bloom."
The quilt starts with a Feathered Star from a pattern by Marsha McCloskey and uses techniques including Fused Appliqué, Machine Appliqué, Couching, Dimensional Work, Embellishment, Free-Motion Quilting, Machine Piecing, Piped Edging, and it is Ruched. All this on a quilt that is just 50" x 50".
Truly spectacular. Kathryn’s quilts seem to start out perfect and get better from there!!!!!
