Stephen Towns: Rumination and a Reckoning is currently at the Baltimore Museum of Art through September 2, 2018. While trained as a painter, Towns also became a self-taught quilter. At the center of the exhibition is the monumental installation of Birth of a Nation, which represents a black woman nursing a white infant against the backdrop of the first official flag of the United States. This quilt is over 7-1/2 feet tall.
