Laura at SewVeryEasy shows you how to create a Faux Flange Binding. It is a "hand-sewing-free" binding with the bonus of a peek-a-boo flange and it is all sewn down by machine.

To me, the measurements are wrong. I might make the flange show 1/8” and add that 1/8” to the binding width. In your version, the flange is just about as wide as the binding...just not a look I like. To each her own!

I love adding a flange to my quilts and much prefer your simplified way of doing it. I might even be able to machine sew the binding in place… Something I don’t do because I haven’t done well in the past. Can’t wait to try your method… Thanks so much!

Hi Kelly, I believe the tool is called the Shortcut Binding Tool. If this is the one I’m thinking of, it comes with printed instructions.

KellyMSmith, there is a step by step (free) tutorial on www.Craftsy.com. Search for Self-Flanged Binding. I really enjoy doing this for my quilts. I found it on a YouTube video called Susie's Magic Binding.

Interesting method. However I prefer to add my flanges separately then bind as normal from the front over to the back. They are still sewn on at the same time.

I love this method! I have never seen this before. I wish there were written instructions too.
