For the last few years on New Years, I have chosen a word to live by. Last year was Detox...I wanted to banish negative self talk, negative people and to cut out of my life those things that seemed to bring me down including projects that needed new homes. It was a very good year and I for the most part was successful in Detoxing...and, I learned a lot. You cannot cut out 100% of the negative. And, in fact there is much to be learned in how to deal with the negative...in a more positive way. The #1 negative self talk that I got rid of was in relation to my stash and projects  What a blessing it was to reacquaint myself with the stash that I love and projects I do want to make but just haven't gotten around too.

Choosing one word to live by or a phrase is such a positive way to move forward. Resolutions have more of a rule set to them, whereas the word is a simple intention that can impact several areas of your life.

So,  the word I chose for 2018...Mindfulness: to be conscious or aware of something that could be important or affect one's life...And thus, I will in all aspects of my life try to be mindful. Mindful of what is happening around me and how through my awareness create a better spot in the world. Most importantly in my quilting life...be mindful of my stash, LOL.  I bet you wondered what this all had to do with quilting!!!  In 2018 I intend to be mindful when it comes to my projects...I want to do it all...there is no doubt! but can I...NO! And, in the past I have let my projects, UFOs, WIPs and PIGs control my life...in 2018 I will be mindful when working on each one.  Giving them their just due...Which means, working on each one, with mindfulness, relaxing and enjoying one project for a mindful moment in time.

Anna, I absolutely agree with last years word and also this years word. I have so many kits both up in my sewing room and in the basement in containers. Seriously I won’t be able to complete everything in my lifetime. So I’m setting a goal to work on what I have to attack the stash, and to make a concerted effort to finish a UFO or WIP before I buy something new. Wish me luck!
