Masako Kumagawa's quilt, Time Traveler from Byzantine, features two lovely Byzantine style birds along with unbelievable appliqué and hand quilting. You won't find them on your Thanksgiving table.
Such beautiful hand work. The design is very elegant as well. Makes sense that the Japanese would take the art seriously enough that they would have intensive training for it.
I repeat all the accolades already mentioned here; exquisite hand stitching and I find the info on Japanese quilting in the first comment here, very interesting. Thank you for that and thanks to Masako for sharing. I am long term hand embroideress, even helping Nuns stitching on church banners way back in my youth.
Did you know thatJapanese quilters go to school to learn how to quilt, it is called the iemoto method, 6 months of rigorous instruction for basic, another 6 months, for advanced and 6 more months for instructor level, the training is very intensive and held at special schools, it is expensive and demanding. That is why they are such exquisite quilters. Most of us in the west learn by the seat of our pants.
