What Quilts Stopped Capt'n John at Houston 2017?

Capt'n John--"When I get to the quilt area at the Houston Quilt Show, I run through looking at categories and the special exhibits to see if something really grabs my attention. I have seen a lot of quilts by now, but I never get tired of the variety and quality at these major shows. This year a special exhibit called "Quilts 1650-1850 From "Broderie" to "Broderie Perse" stopped me in my tracks. Here is one of the quilts. Sorry for all the pictures, but you really have to see all the detail to know why I was amazed." We will show more of these in the coming weeks. (The last picture is one of the butterflies. Can you find it on the big quilt picture?)

Just amazing! I wish you had also added a close up of the pieced blocks. The corner blocks are easy to analyse, but the ones between them look very special. I would appreciate very much if you showed a photo of those, too..

In the description of the piece it is called a "coverlet", not a quilt. Also, the techniques used may inspire someone to use them on a "quilt".

Nice piece but I wouldn't call it a quilt as I don't see any quilting.

Unbeleivable . imagine the hours and hours that was spent sitting beside a fire at night, stiching by candle light to do this, all those years ago. No name who made it? And thank you for showing us.

Beautiful work. A delightful piece of eye candy.
Handwork is one of my favorite pastimes so this piece really calls to me.

Ladies of the past were very proud of their handwork and those who had the time to, spent many hours perfecting it. On many pieces the back of the work was almost as beautiful as the front.

Just breathtaking! Wish I were in Houston this year to see all the wonderful quilts! I see many butterflies I think - there is is one to the inner corner of each of the four appliqued "dahlias" and it looks like there are more scattered in between the oval bordered florals all the way around that outer border. Such detail!! These women had so much more to do than we have these days with all our conveniences, and yet it seems they were able to give themselves more time and pay more attention to create beautiful masterpieces. We rush all too often! Thanks for sharing.
