Marilyn Smith of Columbia, Missouri, USA created the quilt Carolina, 84" x 94". It was accepted into AQS Paducah 2017. This is one of those quilts you have to linger on for awhile to understand the work involved. We love the border and the extra details throughout the quilt. It's interesting how she scalloped two of the edges. See how the quilting is such an important part of the design. The techniques include Beading, Bias Work, Hand Embroidery, Free-Motion Quilting, Machine Piecing, and Piped Edging.

To skip75- yes, you would add the beads and buttons after having your quilt quilted. I'm a longarm quilter and the hopping foot would break your beads and buttons if it hit one. And could damage or break a needle which could throw off the machines timing :(

Beautiful quilt!

What a fun quilt I can imagine a young girl lying beneath it dreaming of her prince charming coming. The buttons and the beading just kicks it right up to the top of fun

Outstanding workmanship. Amazing quilting. Design is outstanding. The beading is a added plus for the design.

 I loved it... Was the bead work done after the Quilting? I am interested because I am using beads and buttons in my work and wonder what is the best way to handle them??
