We love Gail Stepanek and Jan Hutchison and are always anxious to see their creations. Cache of Carats, 76" x 76", won 1st Place in Paducah in the "Wall Quilts - Moveable Machine Quilted" category. You know how you take a bride's hand and look at the diamond? That is the way you need to look at this quilt. We have a couple of close ups for you.

Something to look for: In the first detail shot, are the yellow strips fabric or ribbon creating the design around the star?

Enjoy!

The yellow stripes are in a plaid that has been fussy cut.

Quoting Kerry D:
If it's the same yellow strips I'm looking at, I recon it's fussy cut fabric??? :-*

Yes, it is fabric as I have that same fabric in a piece I did! Great way to use the print of the stripe and fussy cut to make the star!

It must be ribbon, because the intersections where the fabric crosses over is more intense. No matter what, it is certainly remarkable!

Ribbon!

Is that trapunto quilting that is so raised or is it just the micro quilting surrounding the swirls that give the illusion? Either way, a phenominal quilt. Congratulations !

I think it is organdy ribbon. Absolutely stunning quilt!

:D I'm terrible at machine quilting. I cannot imagine being able to do this work so beautifully. Must have practiced every day for MONTHS!
