Suzanne Labry at Quilts Inc. has written an interesting article about Queen Liliuokalani, the last reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii. In the article you'll learn why Queen Liliuokalani made a quilt from 1895-1896 while in prison. This quilt documented her displeasure at the turn of events in her kingdom. Surprisingly, this is not how you'd expect a Hawaiian quilt to look.

The 97” x 95” “Queen’s Quilt” features nine Crazy Patchwork blocks. Click on Read the Article to see the quilt and learn the story behind it.

The quilt is on display in Queen Liliuokalani's "prison" room in the makai-Diamond Head second-floor corner of Iolani Palace.

I saw this quilt in January 2017 when I went to the Iolani Palace. It was a beautiful quilt documenting her imprisonent.

So sad. She had so much talent. I wonder if she was a man would this have happened?
