I was the wage-earner while my kids were growing up; I worked on sewing their clothes, and later on quilting, in the evenings and on weekends. I am a 'lark' so I was able to get up early and work in the basement. I also knit and embroider -- very portable, and easy to pick up and put down. I didn't discover my "artistic side" till in my fifties; by then, my kids were grown.
Space and also I trained my kids to not touch my "toys". I never move anything( not even scissors and pins) when my grandchildren visit. In fact, I teach them to sew and also I have sewn with my kid on my lap.
Arlene Fitzpatrick, I am also a mother of five and when they were small sewing was my life saver! My son and four daughters can sew anything they need to sew! I find that my sewing room is usually a creative mess but I am very productive. I love keeping up with the new quilting trends and Fabrics. Thank you for your wonderful inspiration!
