People who sew by machine have used basting for as long as anyone can remember. So why not baste, by machine a curved (or plaid matching) seam using the "blind hem" stitch set long for basting?I have been doing this since the early 1980s - and am always amazed to see people instructing to use the concave to convex seam without first basting. All it requires is turning back and pressing the seam allowance on the concave piece, pinning in place and basting with a blind hem stitch. The seam allowance on the convex piece can then be trimmed before or after the final stitching. See my illustrated tutorial at: http://mouseinamazefiberphotos.blogspot.com/
