On a bluff overlooking the Missour River near Chamberlain, South Dakota, a new statue has been unveiled. It is Dignity, a 50-foot tall stainless steel statue by South Dakota artist laureate Dale Lamphere. It depicts a native american woman receiving a star quilt. According to the artist, Dignity honors the culture of the Lakota and Dakota peoples who are indigenous to South Dakota. The statue was the gift of Norm and Eunabel McKie of Rapid City, South Dakota in honor of the 125th anniversary of South Dakota statehood.

You can see the statue below. Wouldn't you love to have one of the quilts that the participants are wearing?

Does anyone know if there is a quilt pattern for this?

My sister lives in Chamberlain and I can't wait to go see this beautiful statue. Finish your trip by going to the Black Hills and seeing Mt. Rushmore, The Badlands, Custer State Park. South Dakota is a beautiful State.

This statue is fantastic. It is very fitting that we honor the ancestral heritage and the contributions that the Native Americans have given this country in more ways than one. The timing is perfect coming around the same time that the African American Museum in Washington D.C. opened. I feel the Native Americans should be honored more than the African Americans in that our ancestors treated them much worse when this country was settled (invaded) by Europeans. God Bless us all.

:D it's beautiful. I hope know one has it torn down because it become less relevant. It is a gorgeous peace of art.
