Thousands have fled from the Canadian city of Fort McMurray to escape the raging wildfires.  A website and Facebook page have been set up to help.

They are able to use any size of quilts you desire to donate, from baby sized on up. They prefer quilts that are done, but are able to accept tops, as there are some Longarm Quilting services available to them. They also need batting and backings to finish tops donated. Pet quilts are also welcome!

You may ship your completed quilts to:

My quilting friends in Evan City, Pa will be sending a donation of quilts shortly. Our hearts go out to all those who have lost so much.

Nice to know where all my unfinished tops and finished quilts will go.

I talked with a young woman from Fort McMurray today in a quilt shop. Her house did not burn but the smoke damage is extensive. She was asking how to get smoke out of her stash as well as her finished quilts, and their clothes of course. Anyone know? There could also be water and chemical damage from fire fighting efforts. - from Edmonton, with tears

See comment #9 for the American address. Quilts will be hand delivered to those who need them. They will not be sent to a distribution centre. The organizers have done this before and have a system. Nova Scotia quilters will be sending a box of quilts out soon. Thanks to all who are helping!

How will the quilts be given to evacuees? The distribution centers are chaotic in Edmonton and some are located too far out of the city.
My son and his partner are among them and have only toiletries and a suitcase of clothing. They are in the process of trying to find a furnished apartment but may have to stay in a friends' camper.
I just spoke to my son, they will cherish a handmade quilt. Not only will it keep them warm, it will be a treasured reminder of the kindness of our southern neighbor's and a difficult period in their lives , the personal growth, awareness and understanding it will bring. Thank you for thinking of the evacuees . Your kindness is heatwarming.

Do you only want homemade quilts? I am moving to a smaller place and have 4 or 5 that are in perfect condition but came from a store. Can they be mailed in a regular cardboard box?

Such a wonderful gesture of support. Thank you to my fellow Canadian quilters and all our American friends. There's nothing like a handmade quilt to show you care.

Thank you for supporting my fellow Albertans. There are evacuees all over the province, including Edmonton and Calgary

Donations to the Canadian Red Cross would probably be of more help right now. While quilts are wonderful things, the immediate concern of the people of Fort Mac is food and shelter. Most of the evacuees won't be going back to Fort Mac for quite a while.
