Explosion at the Home of David Taylor

Tuesday evening, February 17, 2016, David Taylor’s home in Steamboat Springs, CO caught fire from an explosion. Steamboat Today reported, "It is thought that snow falling from a roof triggered an explosion at a Steamboat Springs duplex Tuesday night …” David is an award-winning quilt artist and a beloved quilt teacher who has also been featured on TheQuiltShow.com. David was was not home at the time. He was teaching in Chicago.

David texted Ricky Tims this message: "My house blew up while I'm here in Chicago. I am devastated, but will be fine. I think my Berninas melted.” Subsequently he said, "My friends who were allowed in to get stuff from my office do not want me to see inside because, apparently, it's devastating to look at.”

TQS will report more as soon as we know more details. TQS is asking the quilt community to keep David in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult and emotional time.

Marion County, WV. So sorry for you going through this house fire. Stay strong and everything will work out ok. I went through a total loss of house fire in 1985. Prayers are with you! Love your quilting and patterns! Thank God know one was home during this time.

Did David live in Alaska in the early 80s? I lived there then and remember a male quilter that attended a retreat. Just wondering.

Oh, David, so very sorry to hear this bad news. I am glad you weren't there when this happened. I know you don't have pets so that wasn't a concern for you. I hope the damage is less than you might fear. Any help you need - let us know.

Giles County, VA quilters send prayers asking for strength and courage for David. I have enjoyed seeing pictures of David's quilts for years and hope his creative spirit will be with him.now.

My heart is breaking for you! I know you have a small space, but it was so packed full of equipment, supplies, and your favorite things. Please tell us how we can help replace some of what you've lost! So glad you're OK! 18 mos. ago, I lost most of what I owned, so I can relate. It's devastating, but it gets better! We love your work.
