I used pieces from my husband's old jeans to make a cover. Cut the good parts out of the legs sew them together the size you want/need. You can do this for top and bottom or strictly for the top, It lasts a lot longer than plain cotton and washes great. Good way to recycle his old jeans.

Good lesson on doing the corners of gussets. I likely would just buy an inexpensive foam/poly premade pillow for the insert and adjust the cover dimensions to that - might be a cheaper option.

Thanks for an interesting tutorial. I would use an old nylon shower curtain to make the inner for the pet bed.
I also use the shower curtains to make my pilow protectors as well as line baby bibs with the shower curtains as that prevents the baby's chest being constantly damp. :-)
