Update:  Look who turned in his quilt and it's a beauty!  It's Ricky's Sentinels at Sunset II:  Someone to Watch Over Me.

Artist Statement: As sunset moves to twilight and then to darkness, vigilant sentinels stand guard.

Dedication: Throughout 2012 my 85 year old father's memory loss has progressed significantly. I dedicate this quilt to him and to my mother who keeps watch over him.

On the 130th anniversary of the founding of Banco Sabadell (in Spain) they wanted to pay homage to their city by means of the campaign "Som Sabadell" (We are Sabadell).  This flashmob had the participation of 100 people from the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, the Lieder, Amics de l'Opera and Coral Belles Art choirs.

It has nothing to do with quilting, but who isn't inspired by the beauty of Beethoven; and didn't the little girl in pink get her money's worth?

Look what is going on at Michigan State University Museum.

Patterns of Inquiry: Quilts in Research and Education; June 3 - September 23, 2012

Here's what the Museum says about the exhibit:

From treasured bed coverings, to provocative works of art and political statements, to sophisticated digital learning tools, curators at the Michigan State University Museum are patterning together a whole new understanding of what quilts are.

The exhibit considers the quilt alongside subjects like math, and relating abstract concepts with concrete patterns and designs; social justice, and the practice of creating statements or tributes stitched in quilts rich with message and meaning; quilts and health, from fundraising quilts, memorials to the intersection of quiltmaking and health. One new frontier, singled out by the National Endowment for the Humanities for a research grant, makes use of digital methods for visual searching and pattern recognition and a test bed for development of algorithms to isolate salient characteristics (such as color, shape, line or patterns) to sort through massive numbers of image objects—in this case, quilts.

The exhibit is in the Main Gallery, 409 W. Circle Drive, East Lansing, MI 48824

These little beauties were recently found in an antique shop in Sisters for $1.00 each (unfortunately, #1 was nowhere to be found).  What quilting treasures have you found in your journeys, attics, and garages?

Quilting doesn't always have to be found on a quilt.  For example, this Radio Flyer go-kart has a lovely hand-made quilted seat.  Submit a comment and let us know "What have you quilted that isn't a quilt?"

It's a good time to visit the website of Courtepointe Quebec Quilts. They have the winners of Salon 2012 posted on their site and these are quilts your won't want to miss!

Click here to see the winners.

Here's a bit of history from their website:

The provincial association Courtepointe Québec Quilts  (C.Q.Q.) was founded in 1988, following the national meeting of Quilt Canada that took place in Montréal in 1987. This important event on the Loyola campus gathered together more than 300 members of diverse Quebec organisations, and included visitors from Australia.

The purpose of C.Q.Q. is to establish and maintain quilting standards and to sponsor and support quilting activities, such as speakers, quilt shows, quilt making and collecting, to contribute to the growth of knowledge of quilting techniques, textiles and patterns, to share the history of quilts and their makers through educational meetings, travel and fellowship.
