Join Wearable Art Creators - Marcia Manzo and Leilani Bennett, as they discuss "Art To Wear; Is It a New Concept?" at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, September 29, Sunday, 2-4pm.

The Wearable Art Movement began in the 70’s ….. or did it?
Marcia and Leilani will take you on a journey from Kurdish huts and ethnic clothing adorned with talismanic embellishment to the haute couture of the Paris runways. We will visit the Beat culture of 70’s Carnaby Street and the mountain villages of Peru. The journey ends in the Bay area, home to a wide array of talented artists keeping the movement vibrantly alive and well.

A little birdie told us that there are more than a few TQS members who have received notification that their quilts will be hanging in Houston.

If you are going to have one on display, toot your horn by submitting a comment so that we can look for it at the show.

Congratulations to you all!

There's going to be a lot of fun going on at the Long Beach Quilt Festival.  On Saturday, August 3, from 6-8:30pm you can witness the Iron Quilter Challenge.

Based on the popular "Iron Chef" television show, The Iron Quilter Challenge pits three well-known quilters (Charlotte Angotti, Debbie Caffrey, and Gyleen X. Fitzgerald) and their teams against one another to see who can create the best finished quilt in an allotted time period. And the audience gets to vote on the winner!

Enjoy a fun-filled night of fast stitching, trash talking, and creativity unleashed as you mingle with fellow attendees and move from contestant to contestant, checking in on their progress.

The evening will also feature an audience Show and Tell, a cash bar, and tons of prize giveaways, including a Bernina 550 QE sewing machine!

Admission for the event is only $15! Sign up for The Iron Quilter Challenge online (until July 19) or at the Enrollment Desk on-site at the convention center beginning July 31.

The Glastonbury Festival 2013 was held at Worthy Farm, Pilton from June 26-30.  While we are sure the music was great, we want to know, WHO MADE THE SIGN?

5766_maya.jpgNext at The ArtQuilt Gallery·NYC are works by Israeli art quilter, Maya Chaimovich. Her show, Travel Log, will be presented from June 25 through August 2. Fourteen pieces will be on exhibit.

From Maya:
Most of the materials I use are from recycled clothes in an assortment of colors. An important part of my design experience is the use of materials worn by people I don't know. I give them a life of their own while designing my own creations. A main theme and a group of colors which I choose, guide me in the creation of a new work. The creation itself develops through much conflict, but gradually evolves into its final form.

11th Quilt Japan brings the best of Asian quilting to the National Quilt Museum June 14 - September 9, 2013. The quilts are from the "11th Quilt Japan" contest which is the mostly highly contested quilting competition in Japan.

Over 370 quilts were submitted and the quilters recongized in the contest are considered to be among an elite group.  The 33 piece exhibit will travel to only three museums in the United States.

According to the museum:

The mix of traditional and contemporary quilts show the exquisite attention to detail that one can only develop through years of practice. The quilts challenge the viewer with unique colors, shapes, and styles.
