Sometimes it's not about the quilting, but it has to be shared. While these advertisements seem hilarious now, it's a little bit scary to think that these are some of the images that shaped our youth. See if you remember any of these. We've come a long, long, way!
Here's a look at the first day of the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara, California, 2009. Let's see if this doesn't get your juices flowing in anticipation of this year's show. It will once again be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA, The dates are October 14-17, 2010. Over $20,000 is awarded in cash and prizes. There will be over 800 quilts and wearables and I have it on good authority that TQS is well represented.
Sue Garman headed over to the Austin Area Quilt Guild Show and Sale over the weekend. The guild has 600 members and over 400 quilts were hung in the show. We'll wouldn't you know it, but there was a first place winner with a pretty familiar quilt. Mary Laminack won First Place in the "Kit, Calendar, Block-of-the-Month and Pre-Stamped Quilts Made by More than One Person, All Sizes" category. To quote Sue, "Phew." This quilt is a beauty and you'll love to read what Mary says about it.
It's time to wrap up Quilting in the Garden for another year. It was a beautiful day at Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore. Alex was visited by many of her quilting friends who came to share their joy of quilting.
The show was sponsored by In Between Stitches and Alden Lane and guest stars included Sue Nickels, Elizabeth Scott, and Denise Sheehan. What could be better than sunshine, friends, and quilts hanging in the breeze!
Judy Mathieson is sharing many of her award-winning Mariner's Compass quilts. You can learn how she goes about it in Show 707: Stellar Star Circles, where you'll get to watch her work at the lovely Wente Winery in Livermore, CA.
It's time to mark your calendars for the Pacific International Quilt Festival. Two weeks from today PIQF opens its doors out on the West Coast. And, just like last year, if our intrepid reporter spots you wearing your TQS badge, you may find yourself immortalized on the TQS website. To learn more about the PIQF, click here.
The award-winning quilts featured are "Elephant Walk" by Pat Rollie, "Geranium Fairy" by Sherry Glidden, and "Color Me High on Life" by Karlyn Bue Lohrenz. You might recognize a couple of these TQS members.
