"The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse was given to Boulder by their sister city, Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. Tajikistan, a small country in Central Asia and former member of the Soviet Republic, sits along the trade routes of the famed Silk Road. The handmade, decorative elements of the teahouse reflect centuries-old Persian design motifs.
Over 40 artisans created the hand carved and hand painted ceiling, the plaster carved walls, carved columns, and external ceramic panels that offer a glimpse into the lavish Persian Empire. After being constructed in Tajikistan, the teahouse was taken apart, crated, and shipped to Boulder where it was reassembled. In Central Asia, teahouses serve as community gathering places where friends meet to socialize over a cup of tea." --from a brochure about the teahouse.
For those of you who didn't get to see how Rob's machine got to be its current color, here's the video that premiered in March 2011.
This is fun. Rob Appell, quilter, artist and sewing machine mechanic decides to jazz up the sewing room. As in all of life, there needs to be a Plan B.
Don't Do This At Home!!!

The pineapple has long been a symbol of gracious hospitality and sharing. Did you know that there about as many varieties of pineapple from around the world as there are varieties of pineapple quilts?
A trip to the Dole Plantation on Oahu (about a 40-minute drive from Waikiki) inspired this slideshow of pineapples and their quilty counterparts...pineapple quilts from our very own TQS members, that we'd like to share with you.
To learn more about these quilts, go the Quilt Gallery and do a search by the TQS member's screen name (shown on each slide).

We all have more than one hobby, some of us quilt and knit, some of us quilt and take photographs, some of us even like to cook! Well, Michael Hinton, Global Sales and Marketing Manager of GAMMILL QUILTING SYSTEMS, has another hobby has well. He is Owner/President of www.TheAntiqueTractorShow.com and as such recently had an honor bestowed. His dedication to preserving antique tractors has resulted in the creation of Antique Tractor Preservation Day on September 23, 2011 in West Plains, Mo.
Congratulations Michael for all your hard work!
A special exhibit was held at the Denver National Quilt Festival put on by Mancuso Show Management. It was Sky-lines and is a collection of 21 quilts from 19 artists from the fiber arts groups, Textile Artists of Greater Yellowstone (TAGY), based in Wyoming's Big Horn Basin, and Women of Artistic Vision (WAV), based in Billings, Montana. It was also recently shown at the National Quilting Association show in Ohio.
Each artist was given a piece of batik 'sky' fabric. The fabric was required to be in the piece and they had to stay within a certain size perimeter, other than that, the sky was the limit.
When these quilts are exhibited together they form 35 feet of continuous skyline.
