There's going to be a new exhibit at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, called. Sponsored by C & T Publishing, Scrap ART will showcase historical quilts from both the Museum's and also private collections.  It highlights the origins of "scrap" quilts and takes a look at their modern-day descdents.

Here's what the Museum has to say about the exhibit, "Just as quilters have long been inspired to make beautiful pieces from available scraps, the throwaways of daily life have inspired a new generation of ecologically-mindd artists to combine creative reuse with old-fashioned thrift in works using material as varied as books, jeans, zippers, plastic, buttons, and teabags. Scrap ART celebrates the reinterpretation of materials by artists both historical and contmporary in works that reflect the cultures and values of their makers."

The Opening Reception will be held Sunday, August 21, 2-4 and is free with Museum admission.

The exhibit will run August 16 - October 16, 2011

Rob was asked to put his TQS Portrait Quilt Class on DVD.  It will be great in a library and wonderful for those with slower internet.

He only made a few and it's a great price of $14.95 with all 10 lessons and some bonus material.

Have you seen the latest project on the C&T Publishing Blog? It's a cute little sewing and needlework book from Sue Astroth author of Make Spectacular Books.

Sue uses scraps, button cards, and ribbon, fiber, and floss to make the design her own.

Head on over to the blog and see if you can't come up with your own design. They would make great gifts for your quilting friends.

Today is John Anderson's birthday! Here he is back in January 2011 arriving at Sweetwater Tented Camp in Kenya. We're pretty sure that glass has just orange juice and papaya in it. We're pretty sure.

Happy Birthday John!

Rob Appell takes you on a fun journey through his week teaching at Quilter's Affair and the annual Sisters Quilt Show in Sisters Oregon.  If you've never been to Sisters, you'll truly enjoy this look at what happens in class and behind the scenes.

Rob gives you a peek at Jean Wells home, visits the classrooms, shows you the interworkings of the show itself and gives a shout out to the quilters of Gees Bend.

Grab a cup of coffee, sit down, relax and enjoy this trip through Sisters and don't forget, next year's show is July 14, 2012.  See you there?

While Hawaii offers many beautiful landscapes, beaches, and blue skies, sometimes manmade beauty can inspire a quilt.

Take a look at these beautiful gates found around Honolulu during Quilt Hawaii and the quilts that seem to be inspired by them.

If you want to know more about the individual quilts, you can do a SEARCH on the TQS members' name from the HELP button on the navigation bar OR from the Forum button.
