Roderick Kiracofe has a new book which examines his stunning collection of approximately 150 eccentric and extraordinary quilts, made predominantly by anonymous quilters in the US during the second half of the 20th century.
Roderick talks about writing his book, Unconventional & Unexpected: American Quilts Below the Radar 1950-2000, in the article "the imperfect, the patched, the torn -- joy and beauty in these states."

Season 5 of Downton Abbey premieres January 4, 2015.
Costumes of Downton Abbey is an original exhibition of exquisite designs from the award-winning television series. Forty historically-inspired costumes from the television show will be displayed. They are supplemented by photographs and vignettes inspired by the fictional program and by real life at Winterthur.
Visitors will have a chance to step into and experience the world of Downton Abbey® as well as the contrasting world of Winterthur founder Henry Francis du Pont and his contemporaries in the first half of the 20th century.
The exhibition runs from March 1, 2014-January 4, 2015.

Winterthur will also be holding a number of lectures and several English brunches and teas to complement the exhibition.

The Victoria & Albert Museum in London has many different types of textiles, including embroidery, silk, wool, and a small component of early printed cottons. Watch and learn about very ornate embroideries known as "‘Opus Anglicanum," woven silks from the 1750s, and gloves from the early 17th century.

The Quilt Alliance has announced their 9th annual contest theme, Animals We Love.
From the Quilt Alliance:
A contest for all quilters – we encourage everyone who makes quilts to enter our annual contest regardless of their style (traditional, modern, art) or technique (longarm, hand quilting, applique, pieced...) --all are welcomed and valued! This year’s theme celebrates the animals we love.
As usual, we welcome any technique, any concept that addresses the theme—but each entry must be a quilt (three layers stitched together). Finished quilts must be 16" x 16" in size and must include a label on the back to include at minimum the name of the artist, title, date & location made. In addition each quilt must have a 4” sleeve sewn to the top of the quilt. All entries become a donation to the Quilt Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and after a national exhibition tour, will be auctioned to benefit the mission of the organization. All entries will be documented and shared in The Quilt Index (www.QuiltIndex.org).

It's official - The 2015 Quilters Hall of Fame inductee is Mimi Dietrich!
Here’s what Mimi has to say about her induction into the Quilters Hall of Fame:
“I am thrilled and honored to be the next inductee into the Quilters Hall of Fame next July. The best part is that for almost 40 years I have been doing something that I love…quilting! I am truly proud of the books I have written with Martingale, and I have loved traveling around our wonderful country and meeting quilters in my classes. For most of my students it all starts with one little hand-appliqué stitch and grows into a fabulous quilt! If you’ve enjoyed my books or taken a class with me, come join me at the Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion, Indiana, next summer…it’s going to be the trip of a lifetime!”
