One of Alex's Crockpot Favorites

1558_mexican_soup.jpg

Everything is "sort of amounts".  Put it in your crockpot in the morning and it's ready by 5:00pm.

Some sort of meat like chicken breast (does not have to be precooked) - you can shred it when it is fully cooked
1 lg can chopped Tomatoes
1 lg can chicken broth
1 can corn
1 can black beans
1 really lg chopped onion
tons of fresh chopped cilantro
the magic key - spicy salsa (about 1/2 a carton) - get decent stuff

that's it!!!

then serve with what ever you want - you can also line the soup bowl with corn tortillas - yum!!!

For fun we went to see what's on Ebay.

OUTSTANDING 1890's NEW YORK BEAUTY Antique Quilt ~RED!

This sturdy cotton 1890's New York beauty quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted, with an unusual design variation with streaks of lightning in the background.

It measures a LARGE 80" X 86" and is in EXCELLENT condition, with a couple of small, faint spots and no wear.

The back and machine stitched, rolled binding are white, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light.

RARELY do you find nineteenth century New York beauty quilts, let alone interesting design variations such as this!

Hey Lynn - John was saying the same thing - I guess great minds to think alike. Here is a picture that gives us a better understanding of the size of the quilts.

As we drove down Main Street in Mesa, Arizona while attending the Ricky Tims Super Seminar we saw the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Temple lit up for the season.  Here are some pictures of the wonderful display.

We are currently in Mesa AZ for a Super Seminar -many of YOU are here! How cool is that? Also, many of YOU are now NEW to to this site - welcome! We are a friendly group of people! Yesterday, John and I snuck out while Ricky was presenting and we stumbled upon the coolest shop in the world - the name is Domestic Bliss. The store was TOTAL eye candy! I asked the husband of the owner if I could snap some shots for this blog and he gave permission. As I was snapping shots and drooling - he led me to a new part of the store - the CRAFTIE area!!!!  And oh yes, there was an area that had Heather Bailey's stamp all over it.  It turns out that Heather lives just miles from here - lucky lady! I LOVE this place and if you are ever in the area, this is a destination store - do not miss it!

Capt'n John--Many times boys do not get trained in the names of colors. Sure we know the primary colors and sometimes can get as descriptive as "dark blue", but the more advanced names escape us. I know the word "puce", but would be graded down on a test if I had to say it was blue, green or red. So when I went out this morning and saw the final leaves on the tree, I was impressed with the color. However, I have no name for it. Here are two leaves. If you were to describe them on the phone to someone, what color would you say they were?

Thank you again to the DAR for allowing us to show a sample of the quilts.  If you are in Washington D.C., be sure to visit the museum.  Their website is fun and has virtual tours of some of the rooms that are fully decorated from the period.
