Today's Zoom Quilt is from a TQS favorite, Jeanie Sumrall-Ajero.  Jeanie's quilt, Flights of Fancy, won 1st place minature at Road to California 2013.  The quilt measures only 13" x 13" and was created with Kaleidoscope Kreator Software.

Artist statement: This quilt began as a way to teach myself digitizing. Little did I realize that one of the most challenging aspects of the digitizing process for me is selecting thread colors. My initial inclination to choose colors that matched the fabric being stitched on created a predictably boring result. It wasn’t until I chose thread colors that seemed to clash with the fabric beneath that the designs came to life with shimmering texture.

Jeanie is the creative force behind the Kaleidoscope Kreator software and also has a class here at TQS on another topic: Printing On Fabric.

Sure an artist can make a pictorial quilt, BUT can the rest of us?  Sue says YES and shows us how.

Quilt artist and teacher Sue Rasmussen began her sewing career as an 11-year-old on an old version 830 Bernina purchased for her by her dad. In this show, she joins the TQS gang on location at the Main Street Quilting Company in Bozeman, MT.

Along the way, she shares loads of good info on fabric choices, construction, and even on using your iPad for creating templates!

Then we visit the Coffee Creek Quilters, whose quilting classes for women incarcerated at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, OR, have dramatically changed the lives of the participants.

Great lessons. Don't miss this or Sharon Schamber's  3 special online lessons coming soon...

Carousel Stampede (72" x 93") by Cathy Wiggins of Macon, NC was the winner of the Director's Award, sponsored by Superior Threads, at the 2013 Road to California Quilter's Conference and Showcase. Take a closer look at the detailed painting and quilting, which horse would you choose to ride?

Artist Statement: When I was young, it was always a big decision as to which horse to ride on the carousel. Which one of these beautiful horses would you ride? Beginning with white muslin, I base painted the background and horses using textile mediums followed by detailed shading with Shiva Paintstiks. It took about 300 hours of painting, 250 hours of quilting and another 40 hours or so of applying the 5000+ crystals.

We have been asked for more info about the AccuQuilt GO! Fabric Cutter.   Over the year you will see videos that explain how they work, but we will also dip into their inventory of great projects that can be created with the system or with just the tools you have.

Many of the videos will then go to live in our classrooms area so that the viewers who have the cutters can learn to use them to their full potential.

If you have any questions about the cutters and how they operate, just make a comment and we will forward them to accuquilt.

Here is a short Intro
