This Friday, February 24, will introduce Episode 6 - How Quilts Have Been Viewed and Collected from the exciting 9-part series, Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics from producer and host, Shelly Zegart. If you missed any previous episodes they will remain available for viewing until March 31, 2012.
In this episode WQM traces quilts slow incursion into museum collections, watching as they finally make the leap from tester bed to gallery wall. This episode charts institutional attitudes toward quilts as objects, rationales for their selection, and the public response to their exhibition (hint: it's very good). To make it all clear, they trace the path of one exemplary quilt from maker to museum. Finally, they explore the lure of quilts for a private collector...who´s got to have them, and why.
Why Quilts Matter is available free to all Star Members through March 31, 2012. This is a gift for Star Members so make sure to be signed in.
