This is from Alex´s book Kids Start Quilting. Many years ago she held a two day class and the kids ranged from ages 8 to 12 (I remember they ALL had a GREAT time!). The twelve year old gal is now a senior in college! This quilt is actually Alex´s class sample - uh oh - I hear the garage door, she must be home. Time to get the quilts back in their places!  I hope you liked this tour.  There are a lot of quilts left.

This quilt is in Alex´s book - Fabric Shopping. The title of the quilt is (big surprise) Baskets. The blocks are 6" finished and the colors were chosen around the focus fabric used in the border. The fabric was designed by one of Alex´s favorite designers, Jennifer Sampou. Coming tomorrow a sampler from Kids Start Quilting.

This star quilt is done in jewel colors with a white background rather than black.  Alex´s friend, Kris Volker, quilted it and added the perle cotton fringe to the cactus.  I like the use of the Cactus fabric because the stars look sharp as thorns.  This is from Alex´s book "Simply Stars".

Whoops!  I missed number 7.  This is an Irish Nine-Patch from Alex's "Finish It" Book.  She has some really fun fabric in it.  I also like the scalloped edges with the quilted flowers.  The curvy edges have a pieced binding.

This quilt is called Scrappy Triangles and is in the "Finish It" Book.  It is made up of 120  41/2" blocks plus and extra row of 1 1/2" squares and half-square trangle units that give it a rectangular shape.  She says it looks complicated but it is just 2 simple nine-patch variations.  I still haven´t started quilting yet, but all I can think when I see this quilt is AccuCut! (Probably because I´m not allowed to touch the good scissors or the sharp rotary cutters).

This was in the middle of the quilts in the armoire.  Do you have pillows that say things?  What do your pillows say?

I am currently in Carmel, Indiana on behalf of Bernina - Yesterday I was in Oklahoma City. I LOVE getting out and meeting YOU! When I was in Oklahoma Wendy brought an incredible dress for us to enjoy - her daughters wedding dress that she sewed in 10 days!!! The embroidery was incredible and truly inspiring. Thank you Wendy for bringing this treat to the event!

Alex loves baskets.  A friend saw this quilt on Ebay and instantly knew that Alex would want it.  So, she bought it and called Alex.  She was right, Alex was there with the checkbook.

Alex thinks it's about a 1930's quilt.  What's your guess?  I tried to take a lot of pictures of the fabrics.

What started out as a picture of Alex's Rose of Sharon quilt that was featured in "Beautifully Quilted", ended up being a lesson in photography-or rather a lesson in what not to do.  Notice that low brightness brings out the quilting better.  I have a whole lot of questions to ask Gregory Case now that I tried to do close-ups of quilting stitches.  As always, if it has to be done right for contests, magazines or hanging, use a professional.

The next quilt coming out of the armoire is one Alex bought on Ebay.

This is the last of the quilts made from blocks given to Alex by famous quilters. Again, it was Margaret Miller that so wonderfully put the quilts together.  The middle picture is by Charlotte Warr Andersen.  Her website is http://www.charlottewarrandersen.com/.  it is always fun to check up on what she is up to.

Next we will finally get to Alex's quilts.
