One of the perks of membership are the quilting classes.  Alex has over 70 classes on the list and more coming.  We know you are busy, so these are short classes that teach, give advice and tips to keep you on a learning path.  Sometimes the class is just an important reminder to keep you safe or on track.

Alex's classes are usually around 3 minutes long, so you can get back to quilting.  Here are some suggestions:

  1. Click on the "Complete Video List" to see the titles of all the videos.
  2. If you are on Internet Explorer, you can increase the size of the video by click on "Page" then "Zoom" and choosing either 125% or 150%.
  3. The videos are there for you as long as you are a current Star member.

Here are 3 samples:

Right before fall market, I got my hands on my new line Elizabeth Anne by P&B Textiles. In an effort to strut her "stuff" - I asked Bunny if she could make me a tote at the 11th hour. And fortunately her answer was yes. I love this tote so much I encouraged Bunny to put it up in her blog and if possible make a pattern. Well, she did it! To find out more go here.

My favorite season of all time is fall. I love the colors that nature brings to our attention - and to think that the bountiful array of fall colors were once my least favorite. I guess the old adage, the more I know the less I know, holds especially true in this case. What were you once afraid of and now embrace when it comes to quilting?

In June 2009 Alex was invited to Costa Rica by her good friends Maria Teresa and Rocio of El Costurero Quilt Shop in San Jose, Costa Rica.  Maria Teresa and Rocio pioneered quilting in Costa Rica.  Alex gave a (translated) all day seminar on quilting to 300+ quilters and had quilts in a special show.  The TV show "Buen Dia" came and filmed her at the store with the wonderful local students.  The video is in Spanish.

Thursday night in Houston Alex celebrated Maria Teresa's birthday.  Happy birthday to a quilting pioneer.

TQS Editor, Mary Kay Davis, made this loving tribute to Alex's hairstyles through the years.  Be kind, your hairstylist wasn't always on her game either!

It has been a long time since I have done both market and festival - It is almost sensory overload!  I can guarantee you that EVERYONE who is going to market (School House starts Friday) is in panic mode right now. I have two aspects of packing going on here - first my clothes (once a girl always a girl) then my "Market Stuff" - I have many new products coming out and they all need to be celebrated in proper fashion. With C&T Publishing, three new books and the 4 in 1 tool (still sorting out that situation - quality control issues), then a new line with P&B, Elizabeth Anne (named my daughter Adair), a new pattern with JWD called Honey Bears and then of course The Quilt Life with AQS...and that is just market! Thank goodness I love this industry so much, or I might start crying - tears of joy, of course. Oh yes, and if you are coming to festival, Quilts Inc. is putting on a special exhibit of quilts by the 15 Silver Star recipients. I have two quilts in, one everyone will be familiar with, but the other is Joey and Shelly's wedding quilt. Only a few people have seen it. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel - I need to eat lunch.....

Looking for a fun side trip this next year? How about Napa or San Francisco -I LOVE MY STATE OF CA and want to share it with you! Join Alex and Jim West to discover the wonderful Napa / Sonoma valley in CA for a luxurious four day weekend. We will sip wine at private vineyards, take a jaunt on the wine train, get a cooking lesson (this was set up especially for Alex) and a little red work project to commemorate our adventure. OR - if San Francisco is your desired destination this might be the choice for you. In San Francisco (to be a true local NEVER call it Frisco or San Fran - argFoot in mouth) we will delight in the sights of my favorite City by the Bay. We will visit world renowned Britex and slip into the tiny shop of Lacis. Again, a special red work project will be created for this journey. In both cases, these trips are designed for traveling with like minded people (quilters) in a top notch and safe setting. A perfect treat for you - and yes, John is coming along. For more information on Napa go here and for more information abut San Francisco go here. Space is limited, so do not delay.
