Joaquin (Ricky) and Mona (Alex) [Show 511] had a swingin' time choosing their favorite entry in the Big Love Challenge. They were really stoked to tell you that the winner is "With Love and Peace" by Pattheclarinetist.

TQS will ship pattheclarinetist a really cherry lava lamp to deck out her pad AND a gift certificate for 1-year TQS membership.  Now that's far out, Man! See the rocking out entries that were totally boss.

CATHERINE WARREN HENRY ANTHONY, the mother of TQS 2009 Legend Libby Lehman, passed away on March 29, 2010 in Houston, TX. Catherine was featured in the legend #513 show with Libby which was taped in November of 2009.

She was proud to be a fifth generation Texan and a resident of Houston all of her adult life. Born in Nixon, TX, she graduated as the Valedictorian of her class from Edna High School. Catherine earned a B.A. in 1946 from Rice University, majoring in biology and chemistry, where she met her husband of 61 years, James Phillip Anthony, Jr. Catherine was a member of the Rice Historical Society, and she and Jim enjoyed numerous international trips with Rice University alumni groups.

Catherine was an accomplished quilt artist, instructor, lecturer, and judge around the country and internationally. She was a certified member of the Professional Association of Appraisers of Quilted Textiles, and was the author of two books on quilt blocks, and another book featuring her special area of expertise, Amish Expressions: Patterns for Small Quilts. She also co-authored two books on quilting techniques with her daughter, Libby Lehman.

The "Quilt Patch", a retail quilt store, was co-founded and owned by Catherine for twelve years. Her distinct personal style was beautifully displayed in a series of quilts she made honoring accomplished women of Houston. She also used her skill in balanced design, color, and impeccable workmanship to create peaceful garden areas with plants, rocks and fountains as her "fabrics".

She enjoyed friendship and loving support in a Quilt Group that has gathered monthly for over 30 years. She was an expert on Native American Indian jewelry, sharing a specialty jewelry business called "Sacha Traders" with her daughter, Sarah

We know you will want to send Libby your thoughts and prayers, but rather than filling up her email box, please post a comment here.

Here is the obituary from the Houston Chronicle.

Thanks to all the talented TQS members who entered our recent Table Runner Contest. There were so many beautiful pieces; it was very difficult to select the winners!

Based on your nominees for the top six entries, ARJJ chose the top three winners. All three are shown here. A big round of applause goes out to the winners for their outstanding work.

Watch this space: We'll soon be sharing the patterns for the top three winners with our TQS Star members, so you can create a winning table runner of your own...and be sure to keep an eye out for our next contest, coming in May. Once again we'll be offering a monetary prize to the top three winners.

Wow - When we consider the talent represented by our TQS community, we just couldn't let this article go unannounced on this site. Congratulations Margo for a great interview and a slice of who you are - we knew you were a really good quilter - but beware folks - put on your seat belts before viewing this!

If you have not already written the name of a friend or family member on a purple patch for the Name Quilts that will be part of the "Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope" traveling quilt exhibit, it is not too late.

Please email Ami Simms with the name of the names of family or friends you know who has or had Alzheimer's, or a related dementia, so that they can be included in the 10,000 names the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative is collecting to honor and remember.

Please share the person's first name, first name & last name, or their first name and the first letter of their last name---whatever you feel most comfortable with. Please include the city and state where they are/were from.

If you have already put your loved one's name on a purple patch at any time during the last year, the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative has got it. If not, please let Ami add the names now. No limit. As many people as you wish to honor is fine.

We urge you to email AmiSimms@aol.com now with the name and location of your loved ones and friends and support this monumental project.

Annette, Gail and Helen have done it again with their Best of Show win at the Road to California Quilter's Conference and Showcase.  Many of you watched when Annette Hendricks (USA), Gail Thomas (Canada), and Helen Godden (Australia) began working on this quilt here at Tims Art Quilt Studio in La Veta.  And in 2008 you watched The Quilt Show.com and You, it's members, present "The World of Beauty Award" at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX.

We were very lucky to have them work on their quilt at Ricky's studio in La Veta. To watch go to "Articles" and scroll down to June 29, 2008 or just click here.
