from Ricky's face book - posted 8:00 am EST

Saturday was a "good" day for Libby in the fact that the swelling of her brain was reduced and she was more stable.

The not so good news is that, while she is in a sedated comatose state, they doctors were able to determine that the stroke on Friday was "massive" and that her left side is paralyzed. Libby is left-handed.

They say her vital signs are good but she remains on a feeding and breathing tube. They are slowly reducing the sedatives do that she can hopefully awaken in the next few days.

She is far from "out of the woods" and remains in "critical" condition with nurses monitoring her around the clock.

There an be no predictions for her recovery or her quality of life after lengthy therapy. Lester (husband), Les (son), and her sisters are "devastated" but doing their best to remain strong. You thoughts and prayer for them too are appreciated.

Libby Lehman, our beloved TQS contributor and friend, is in the hospital in Houston suffering from an anuerysm.

Fortunately she was lucid and had motor skills before being taken into surgery.

Please send your prayers and good thoughts her way.  We will keep you posted.

The Rogue Art Quilters of Ashland, OR are sponsoring an Art Quilt Initiative open to all interested art quilters; membership in RAQ is not required. Design an art quilt that celebrates a notable woman--one who has made a difference in the world, past or present; one who would typically be well known in her field of expertise and recognized by at least a portion of the general populace.

The woman you select must be a Notable Woman, representational of her field of expertise and recognizable to at least a portion of the general populace as a well-known personage.

  • Think author, poet, artist,  singer, musician, humanitarian, politician, doctor, businesswoman, scientist, world leader, explorer, Et al.
  • It is understood that your mother/sister/grandmother has made a difference, but it is probable that she does not meet the overall criteria of this Initiative.
  • If you are looking for ideas, check out some of the links to lists of notable women on this website.

The streets of Historic Downtown Paducah will be buzzing with excited quilters this week as they make the annual pilgrimage to Quilt City USA ® to see the American Quilter's Society "Best of Show" winner--and so much more.

The show has a long and distinguished history: AQS has awarded $10 million in prize money since the show began almost 30 years ago!

If you can't make it to Paducah to experience the show in person, never fear. Paducah's very own super hero "Quilt Man" is here! Follow his QuiltWeek adventures on Twitter as he celebrates quilting with visitors from around the globe, honoring the innovation and talent of today's quilter.
