Cosmic Kaleidoscope by TQS member Leequilter

Hey gang! Many of you have made my Kool Kaleidoscope quilt either by attending my class, watching my Kool Kaleidoscope DVD, or watching TQS Episode 403. If you have made the quilt, please chime in with your thoughts about the process and final results. C&T, my publisher, is asking for testimonials and your comment just might be published when the book comes out! Raise your hand and tell your story in 20 words or less. Thanks!!

Of course you know TQS is the most comprehensive quilting site in the world and exploring it all takes a while. Did you know that under the menu button above "THE FORUM"  there is a list of quilt EVENTS posted by "you." With summer travel on the minds of everyone, check out the events that are listed. You can list your upcoming event if it's not already there. If you find an event you think you'll be attending there's a place to raise your hand to say, "Hey, I'm coming!"

For example, look what's been happening this weekend in Pine, Arizona!

Hey gang. This is made from class sample bits. It is certainly in line with my 'caveman' piecing. Just finished it today - so looking for names again. Any suggestions?

On the day prior to our currently running La Veta Quilt Retreat I taught day two of a dye class (Justin teaches day one). In my class I teach various dye painting techniques including mono-print. For my sample I slathered thickened dyes on a surface and ran my fingers through the colors. I sort of liked the fabric and with all the teepee action going on at Autumn Rock, it got me thinking about doing something with that class sample. I worked on this yesterday and finished quilting it after dinner. It's not fancy - but it was fun - and anytime I get to quilt is always a treat! I'm looking for a good name for it - any suggestions?

You probably know by now that I'm cuckoo for for bears and look for them all the time. Twice now in two weeks a bear has walked through the yard with our sprinklers on - traipsed right up the driveway toward the front door then walked off by the side of the house. The first time I saw the wet tracks as I was taking the dogs out at 5:45 am. Today, the dogs were done with their business and I was sitting on the couch with my laptop when I heard an unusual noise and the dogs gruffed. I got up I went to our side door and saw the bear sauntering off by the lake. I went to the front door and sure enough, wet tracks again. I had been sitting with my back to the front storm door not 12 feet away. Since this is likely to be repeated, it's time to start the video camera each morning so I can catch the excitement on video. BTW this is not scary - it is very exciting.

Sorry the only photo I got is the tracks - but if you want to see two bears I caught in one video from last week, check out this previous blog video.

What would you do if a bear came up to your front door?

Alex and I stumbled upon the booth of Anna Maria Horner at Spring Market 2010. While Anna was not there, her cohort Alexia gave us a peek into some very exciting things. Youthful excitement will keep quilting thriving - and it's contagious. Watch!

Now that Little Bear has been revealed, there's still a bit of mystery to Big Bear. Some of you have guessed a medicine hut or a sweat lodge. This video reveals a new element in the project.

It's always exciting when a much-anticipated day arrives. Well, such was the case yesterday. The Little Bear mystery is revealed in this video and it is a HUGE hint as to the nature of the Big Bear project. Now - what do you think Little Bear and Big Bear are?

As you might know by now, I'm involved in a mystery project at our remote mountain property called Autumn Rock. The project actually involves two parts called Big Bear and Little Bear. Take a look at the progress and see if you can guess what's brewing. The next installment will be a dead give away so stay tuned. Oh - and I saw the bear! You will too! If you missed the previous two videos, you can quickly find them on the I'm Just Sayin' blog at www.rickytims.com.

The cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde are amazing - no doubt about it. The ancient Puebloans thrived in these magnificent dwellings. In time, they dispersed but their heritage lives on in several Puebloan cultures today. The cliff dwelling image is Cliff Palace, the largest of the dwellings in Mesa Verde. I was thrilled to be able to take this photo before tours began so I didn't have to dodge tourists in the photos.

The museum in the park is currently exhibiting Navajo weavings. The designs are amazing and certainly something that quilters can appreciate.
