It's pre-taping day and we're all here. Producers, Beverly and Angel (outstanding!) are guiding us through each episode. We have a new director, Bruce, who is learning all about La Veta for the first time - his wife is a quilter! And Kate has joined us this time as a PA, production assistant. Alex, Justin, Lilo and I complete the team on this side of the production and we sort of got a bit off base during our meeting today. Take a look. Anyone know of a good way to corral a room full of leaders?

Ever wonder what the set looks like during set up? Here's a peek. Also, Alex made a quick visit to the Mountain Valley Quilt Shop in La Veta and Debbie, the owner, was about to send off..... - well, you'll see. What would you like us to show you? We'll see if we can accomodate!

Okay - we do get a bit sillly but we have a lot of fun. I'm not sure how much we can give you this week, but I'll try to provide a few video clips to share with you so you can join the fun of "Production Week." It's a short series we'll call - The Production Files.

There are three great opportunities this summer to add a great adventure to your "What I Did This Summer" journal. I would love to have you join us for a super seminar in one of the cities listed above. In this two and a half day event, held in beautiful, comfortable facilities, you'll learn a multitude of tips, techniques and tricks.

Alex Anderson, Libby Lehman and myself are dedicated to giving you the best quilting lessons we possibly can. The Ricky Tims Super Quilt Seminar is geared to ALL quilters regardless of level or personal style. The supply list only requires that you bring an open mind, a bit of laughter, and your "learning seatbelt" because you'll have to hold on for the ride!

Details are available at rickytims.com , Be sure to browse the items in the green topic bar across the top of the Seminar page. Try to fit us in - you won't be sorry, we promise! As a matter of fact we're so convinced that you'll find this experience rich, rewarding and worth attending that if you don't think it was worth it, you can exchance your syllabus for a full refund immediatly folllowing the last session of the seminar.

Today I taught a class called Scribble Applique. These are two examples of the work accomplished by two of the students. Each student worked from a photo or original image to create their own drawing and freely cut the fabrics to create these wonderful masterpieces. Aren't they wonderful? Everyone did spectacular work and it was hard choosing just two to post for you to see now. Sorry, the photos are a bit blurry, but they were taken with a video camera instead of a still camera.

I'm also sorry you will be missing my great adventure for a few days, but I cannot edit and post video when I'm on the road. However, I am really excited about being in St. Paul, Minnesota for the annual quilt show put on the the Minnesota State Quilt Guild. This show is one of the most organized and well-directed quilt shows around and it is all done by volunteers! It rotates each year to one of four cities in the state so that the travel is more easily distributed for the members.

If you don't know about my great adventure - click on the Rhapsody Reality BLog on the upper right of The Daily Blog and start from the very beginning.

If you are attending the Minnesota show be sure to visit me and say, "It's a New Day!"

Is anyone going to the Minnesota State show next week? I'll be there. It will be my third time to participate in this amazing state guild event. If you are going, remember our secret code - "It's a New Day!" - If you haven't made a badge, I've posted it again for you here to use as a guide. It's about 4 inches square and I've seen fused, stitched, embroidered, printed on fabric, and done with colored inks. - Just wear your badge. It will help other members identify you. Those who don't know might ask and you'll have the opportunity to tell them about the site. I'll be reporiing in from the show. - Ricky, looking at a starry night sky in Colorado.

I've recenly begun (began/begun, throw me a bone here all you editors) seeing a few of you sign your name or screen name on the blog or forum followed by your state or country. THAT IS GREAT! It's really cool to see that added bit of information without necessarily going to your profile. But, having said that, it makes me want to go check out your profile even more. So - maybe that's something we need to begin doing more and let it become standard for all of us. Let the training mode begin.

If you were on a desert island, what is the one most important quilting tool or accessory that you MUST have? Needle, thread, and fabric and sewing machines do not count. By the way - mine is freezer paper - are you surprised? - - Ricky in beautiful Colorado

Hey everyone! You'll notice at the top of this page there is a new button and a waving flag - Salute! That button takes to you to a special new blog that is exclusively dedicated to letting you watch me make this new Rhapsody quilt that someone will win. For now the flag is waving to get your attention. However, it is soon to be set as an attention getter. If you are logged off - and then log back on - and a new Rhapsody Reality Blog was posted since you last signed on - it will wave. If you sign on and it is not waving - there is no new Rhapsody Reality Blog for you to see - so no point in checking or wasting your time.

You'll find other links to this new blog, but when you sign on - the button at the top of this page would be the easiest way to get there. If you are on another page -use the link on the far right where it says "Click for the Contest Photo Blog.

The Blog will be a journal of the process and will often include photos and video. Everyone can watch the first video - which is already there by the way - so scoot on over and check it out. Future video clips are for Star Members only. If you want to upgrade - just go to My Account and select Upgrade My Membership.

We expected a flurry of quilt postings, but I just wanna say, "WHY HAVE YOU BEEN HIDING THIS WONDERFUL WORK?" I'm just blown away by all the great quilts that are being posted - and the stories behind them. And - to finally see your faces - it's just so great and personal. I love the diversity of quilts - some simple - some complex, some that are beginners (way to go!) some that are for utility and others used for art. It's all good! Thanks.

For those of you who may not know how to use the search feature, it's time to learn so that you don't have to go through all the quilts one at a time. Click on Search>Find a Quilt and enter in a field or two, such as a state, a country, or a style, -or evern a pattern. One field will narrow the thousands down to only those that meet the criteria. For example, enter Canada, then scroll down and tick Construction Method: Applique - and you'll see only quilts from Canada that are Applique quilts!

Don't forget to submit an email to those whose quilts you admire. You never know when your comment will brighten an otherwise dreary day for someone.

Finally, has anyone started a e-penpal relationship as a result of this site?

The La Veta Quilt Retreat is over and, as promised, I'm providing a montage of some of the work that was accomplihed this week. These one-of-a-kind works offer a variety of visual stimulation. Each morning begins with a short talk that leads to an introspective look at one's creative strenghs and weaknesses. The works are an outward expression of those thoughts, dreams, and visions. This particular retreat tended toward the artistic, contemporary, but often traditional works evolve as well. Way to go gang!
