The Pink Bra Bazaar Charity and Pour l'Amour du Fil ( For the Love of the Thread Show) are collaborating for a worthy cause...the fight against Breast Cancer.  To show your support you can customize and transform a bra using any method you prefer, ribbons, beads, pearls, etc.  Then you send in your bra, where it will be exhibited in the show and then sold with all profits going to the Pink Bra Bazaar.  (Note: the Pink Bra Bazaar website is in French, you can run it through Google translate to read it.)

All bras must be sent before April 18, 2011 to: QUILTMANIA - Casillerie - 44360 SAINT ETIENNE DE MONTLUC-FRANCE.

For inspiration, check out this exhibit from Houston last year curated by A Way to Women's Wellness, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that supports women of today and future generations, through donations given to a variety of women's health initiatives.

In November, we introduced you to co-authors Debbie Johnson and Kim Suleman (writing as Betty and Florrie), who charmed everyone at the International Quilt Quilt Festival in Houston with their warm personalities and their unique dress, typical of the clothing worn by middle-class women from a colliery village in the North East of England during the early 1900s. Debbie and Kim's book, Colliery Days: A Fabric Project Book, includes beautiful photos that were shot in miners' cottages, and features old patterns inspired by the Beamish Open-Air Museum interpreted in updated designs.

The museum, located in Durham County, near Durham City and Newcastle-on-Tyne, was rebuilt and set in 1913, and is a living, working museum dedicated to sharing the history of North East England by allowing visitors to step back into another era. (Think Williamsburg, VA.)  Learn more about Debbie and Kim on our Articles page.

Update!! The Beamish has graciously sent us a terrific selection of photos, so that you too can step back into a time when the pace of life wasn't quite so hectic. Enjoy the visit!

The Kenya Quilt Guild invited Alex, Ricky and their party of quilters to a meeting and exhibition of quilts. The quilts were outstanding but so were their stories about coming to and living in Africa. Here is a quilt showing the diverse countries that make up the guild.
