Alex and Ricky were joined on the set by Debby Schnabel, a retired Neonatal Intensive Care nurse, who took up quilting upon her retirement.  You also know Debby from her Debby Weighs In blogs here at TQS.   You’ll love her tips on fabric selection and threads, her fusible-free techniques for applying circles (a favorite motif), and discovering how she incorporates a variety of embroidery stitches into her work.

Alex and Ricky met with quilter, lecturer, teacher, and "Dear Jane" aficionado, Laura Fraga, at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles.  Along with sharing her love of appliqué, Laura also recently took up skateboarding and managed to get Ricky "on board."  While on site, Museum Director Christine Jeffers gave TQS a tour of the museum, the first of its kind to focus on quilts and textiles.

Jenison, who shares her playful, "serendipitous" screen-printing techniques for transforming natural-fiber fabrics and paper with unusual materials such as plastic Fiesta flags, product packaging, common household items, and hardware-store finds.
