Morning Is Breaking - I made this in a Christine Fries-Ureel workshop. I used thread painting to make the little animals, butterflies and leaves.

Sabu's Kaleidescope - Queen sized quilt. Custom quilted with 12 jungle animals hidden in quilting to carry out jungle theme. Sabu was a family cat named for the jungle boy story as he was born in a commercial greenhouse and spent his early days frolicing through the plants. He lived to be 20 years old.

Backwoods Moose - Moose are so appealing! I created this “Backwoods Moose” Quilt to showcase my “Backwoods” stitching pattern. Familiar forest animals are glimpsed throughout. Original quilt, piecing & applique by Judy Lyon, MeadowLyon Designs,LLC.

RMS Queen Mary - RMS Queen Mary was exhibited in 2008 at International Quilt Festival Long Beach. Label reads: "She sits majestically in the Port of Long Beach while the sun cast shadows on her cold steel, but she is anything but cold. The Queen Mary has wrapped her arms around many souls during war time and peace time."

Navajo Sunflower - I designed the quilt using a traditional sunflower block for the New Quilts From an Old Favorite contest, which is sponsored by the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY. It's a finalist!

Forever Diamonds - This 40X40 wallhanging was paper-pieced although it was not a paper-pieced pattern. I adapted it with the excellent guidance of Carol Doak's paper-piecing DVD.

Sunset Palms - Raw edge applique palm fronds are made from upholstery and quilting fabrics. "Dates" are stone and glass beads on hundreds of embroidery stitches in the widest variety of stitches available.

Guardian of the Gulf - Adapted from 2 photographs taken by my husband: a view across Spencer Gulf,South Australia(SA),and a skink basking in the sun in the Flinders Ranges,SA. Raw edge appliqued cotton fabric.

Prayer at Sunset - I saw a picture of many people on their knees in prayer, and I was struck by the blocks of color from their clothes. This imagery on the quilt represents the "eye of God," the people on their knees in prayer, and the violence perpetrated in the name of religion (the sword). The words "peace" and "love" written in Arabic are visible on the quilt.

Remembering Napili Kai - After vacationing in Maui, I fell in love with Hawaiian quilting. From the "snowflake" method of cutting the design, to the hand applique and hand quilting, it's satisfying work.

Flurries in the Fanlight - This little quilt was juried into the 2008 IQA show at Houston

Batik Snowflakes - These batik shapes remind me of coloful snowflakes. I made this quilt for my husband and our wonderfully colorful Destin home. He loves it!

FA LA LA - My last embroidered holiday piece for this year!! My machine said it needed a break so I will have to get back to other projects-beading, fabric dyeing and get ready for the new year!!

Snow Daze - This was a mystery quilt from New Years Day 2007. I just finished the quilting and this is my first finished project of 2008.

Quilting Bee de los Muertos - I make a new quilt each year for the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. This quilt honors quiltmakers past & present. Any similarity to quilters you & I know is coincidental but I did include a few quilter stereotypes ;-)

Bargello Bouquet - This quilt features a Kaffe Fassett fabric surrounded by a bargello style border. I made it to hang in my guest room. There is a quilt on the guest bed made from the same Kaffe Fassett fabric, made in a completely different style.

Compulsive Behaviour - "Dear Jane" - This quilt is taken from Jane Stickles quilt of 1864. I began piecing in November 1999 using strip piecing, foundation and hand applique. After I finished a row, I had to start the next. The main part of the quilt was pieced by February of 2000. A month later I started on the border. Again the same thing happened. Each pie shaped piece is different and it just kept pulling me in. Around June it was all together. I machine quilted along all the sashing and then began hand quilting. It was finished in January 2001. I loved doing this quilt. Every block was different and I was able to use reproduction fabrics from the early 1900's along with other fabrics I had been collecting.
