Joshua's Frogland - Joshua, my grandson, aged 5, loves frogs. This collage quilt, begun in a class taught by Susan Vassallo, features frogs hidden under 3-D leaves and lots of embellishments.
The same star shines on us all - I made this quilt for an event about the underground rail road in Kansas.... this quilt was to reflect African Heritage of those african americans who came to Kansas to be free during the 1850s. This quilt is full of fabrics and symbols. The story of the slaves following the north star to freedom is reflected in the name of the quilt..."the same star shines on us all"....
Dragon Wings - Made for my then local quilting group's challenge competition using Hoffman's Kaleidoscope fabric. Jillian Sawyer's patterns for stained glass lend themselves beautifully to applique.
Cowgirls Just Wanna Have Fun - Based on a photo of my granddaughter at age 2. Home from church on Sunday afternoon, she shed her shoes and socks, grabbed her Dad's hat and saddled her trusty steed for a gallop through the kitchen.
Gunnr II - Created from a photo image of our Dog, Gunnr. Neocolor II Watersoluble crayons were used to add the color. This was originally a plain, white piece of cotton fabric.
The Raven - The Raven was created around a challenge to pick a favorite poem and make a quilt to depict the poem. I used a combination of two photos for the background which was painted and quilted to give texture and depth. The foreground of the raven is a photo printed on cloth.
Nevermore - A small mixed media piece made in response to a mixed media challenge. A kit was received of which you had to use all the materials and add your own.
Minnie - The last of 4 quilts for this mom. This dress was wore year after year each and every time the family visited DisneyLand here in Anaheim, CA! Knowing this history, I had to keep the dress intact and this is how those memories and Minnie were honored! What is most remarkable is finding the border fabric as the dress is years old! It was meant to be. The bubbles quilted all around the dress are poignant and perfect to the overall design.
Burning Man - Journal Quilt made for Elements 2008. Fire - Burning Man made from daughters photo when she was at Burning Man Festival in 2005. Accepted for Exhibit Houston 2008
Privileged Encounter - Elk roam in our Prairie Creek area of the National Park. One day while guiding some guests we happened upon this fellow and some of his friends right next to the road! - What a privilege!
Gary leaped out and took a bunch of close ups. This particular guy caught my eye, because he seemed to be talking to us. (probably saying: "hey, that lady's getting too close") Anyhow though he didn't have the biggest rack, I decided he was the one.
I'm offering him up for sale...anybody need a gift for your husband? Email me if interested.
He's painted on ultra-suede and looks nice and "fuzzy".
