Fairy Moon - Entered in a Northcott Challenge . Painted face , hands , feet , hair and wings of my neice Robin on black cotton . Fused applique clothes , headdress , and flowers in background .
Stained Glass Stars - My husband bought me the book Paper Pieced Stained Glass Garden Stars by Schwartz & Seifert, and he challenged me to make a quilt from the patterns in it.
Butterfly Effect - I'd never done a pictoral quilt like this one and didn't know quite how to piece it, so I decided to fuse the elements together and satin stitch. The blue in the hands on the butterfly wings and the spots on the wings are two fabrics from the Fabric of Life Projct. I had a lot of fun with this challenge and like the fact that it also helped raise awareness of a good cause.
Pirates of the Caribbean - Inspired by Jacqueline de Jonge quilts, Ricky Tims "Caveman's" fabric and birds from a children's church "Jungle" summer camp. The combination read like the Caribbean to me. Applique flowers and leaves with some hand embroidery. Thread painting on birds and flowers. Home sewing mahine quilting.
See if you can find all the Geicos thougthout the quilt. There are 10.
Sharks & Pirates - My grandson Gabriel was very sure he wanted sharks, not dolphins or fish, in his quilt. His step-brother was more interested in pirates and his quilt is almost the reverse of Gabe's. They each got their wish.
Sailing the Ocean Waves - Made for a guild challenge to literally interpret a quilt block. Applique image adapted from a still of the H.M.S. Surprise from the movie "Master and Commander."
