Schizo Rose - This quilt is called "Schizo Rose" because of the multiple personalities the rose acquired during the design process. Colors change where the quilt is "fractured", and "ghost" leaves are abundant. I was inspired by Katie Pasquini Masopust's books, and used Caryl Bryer Fallert's applipiecing technique. The free motion quilting was done by me, without marking, on my home sewing machine. For quilting detail, see My Personal Photos.
Winter Hunt - I love the intrique and power of big cats and have painted several cats from Africa. It seemed time to showcase a North American cat.. the mountain lion, also known as a puma, even leopard. This piece is a whole cloth painting with ink, with significant amounts of threadwork.
Neutrals Quilt - I started this quilt in an Alex Anderson class on neutrals. I finally finished it, and I really like it. It is machine pieced, hand appliqued and machine quilted. The pattern is available at my Etsy site: http://www.etsy.com/shop/carolyndesign
Tribute to Troop 236 Band - Troop 236 Band goes on a large trip every other year. Disney World, Washington DC, Toronto, Canada are just some of them. I made this quilt as a memory quilt for my DH. We've gone on most trips with them.
Madison's Flipflops and Flowers - This baby quilt incorporates Hawaiian print and hand dyed fabric. Simple baby quilt made for friends. I designed quilt wanting to feature flipflops because I had seen some flipflop quilts and because I knew this would be an outdoor girl.
"Pandora's Closet" - I had many leftover crazy triangles which I added two to make diagonal halves of blocks to make an overall quasi-tumbling blocks. They are supposed to look like they are exploding with light.
Kemet - Made for a friendship project and named after the ancient name for Egypt. The central heiroglyph is Nebkhepure, the throne name of Tutankhamun. It is guarded by the wadjet eye.
Red Scraps a la Alex - This was a fun quilt to make! I used nothing but small scraps from my stash, even piecing the border's background. The glowing effect is achieved by using a gradated fabric in the final border.
Split Coffee Beans - This quilt was made using a jelly roll with coffee motifs, the pattern is called Split Decision and is designed to be made using a jelly roll. This is the first quilt that I quilted using The SideSaddle computerized system with my HQ16.
Lisa's Quilt - This is a paper pieced quilt I gave to my niece Lisa when they moved into their new house. She had a Monet painting with these colors and wanted a quilt with the same colors. It is well used.
Katies Quilt - I made this baby quilt for our niece Katie when she was born. I collect cat fabric and I know kids love bright colors. She is now in kidergarten but still loves the quilt
Thread Fun II - This is the second of my Thread Fun samples. It uses different couching techniques than the first. I used metallic embroidery thread for couching on this one.
Thread Fun I - This is a quilt I use as a sample for my Thread Fun Class. It has couching, bobbin drawing, Libby Lehman's ribbon illusion, perfect circles, 2 threads in one needle, double needle decorative stitches. It is to be made into a purse.
Triangles - Eight tiangles are fabric with metallic satin stitching. The other 8 triangles are all metallic thread based on Libby Lehman's technique of "Ribbon Illusion".
Elvis "The Cat" Takes Over the Sewing Machine - MN Contemporay Quilters challenge was "humerous quilts". This was my entry. It was hung at the MN Quilters show in Duluth.
