NOTAN 01 - Based on a paper collage I made several years ago exploring the principles of "Notan".
It has 4 colors of blue/green plus a deep pink, which unfortunately don't come out right in the picture. All Ricky Tims fabrics. Eventually I figured out how to do the piecing.
Leaders and Enders - I saw an example on Quiltville. This was made almost entirely from my scrap stash! As it was for my grand-daughter I included some associated patterns/fabrics: She collects Teddy Bears, so in went a TB; She is musical, so in went some music-note fabric; She gave me some fabric, so that was put to good use; and I found some fabric that I used when making some clothes for her mother when Hosanna was expected.
I gave it to my grand-daughter for her 21st Birthday, March 2010
Camille Marie - This quilt was made using a variety of block ideas taken from where ever I found them. I had remnant pieces of "Paperdoll" fabric designed by Patti Reed which I had used several years ago on a quilt made for a co-worker for her new baby. Unfortunately, the co-worker lost her quilt in Katrina and I had not taken any pictures of it. But I did have pieces of the fabric which I had always adored so I began looking online to see if I could find any, and, I did. In the end this quilt cost me quite a bit and I did not have as much of the pattern as I would have liked to but this is the result. Camille Marie is my first granddaughter given up for adoption by my youngest daughter. She was born in August, '09 and the quilt was completed and given to her at the age of 3 months.
Grandmother's Legacy - Hand painted front and back on batik fabric , hand painted stenciled , threadwork and free motion quilting , hand embroidery , beadwork in crystals , glass , silver and pearls .
A joy to work on
Paul's Boys - Machine embroidered Irish Setters to represent the Irish Setters that we have owned and my husband has trained in Obedience over the 39 years that we have been married. I have quilted shamrocks and vines all over the main design and have used a Celtic border to compliment the design.
Stairway to Cat Heaven - I just had to make this quilf for my daughter who loves all animals. As with most of my quilts I also resized this pattern to make a smaller wall quilt.
"Blue Jeans" - This is a simple quilt with a story. I made the quilt for my son when he was 9 years old. It is made of patches cut from all his worn out denim jeans. It only took me about 2 years to get enough patches. My son was the kind of boy who wore out his jeans very fast. Sometimes he could actually leave for school in the morning wearing brand new jeans, only to return in the afternoon with holes on at least the one knee. I had to buy the denim for the sashing and borders.
Coral Sea - I saw a picture of a quilt like this called "Sea of Love" in the book Barchello Quilts by Marge Edie. I loved it and tried to make something simular.
Redwork Wall Hanging "Waiting for spring" - I drew the vases of flowers, transfered the designs to fabric using a light box and then worked them with pale red embroidery thread.
