This is a "boys colors" scrappy 6" hexigon quilt. The pieces came from my stash. I hand pieced it. It now lives with my grandson Caleb in IA. Made in Johnson City,TN.
This Hunters Star was made by me for my daughter who lives in IA. Her husband and their friends hunt for deer so I thought it was an appropriate pattern for them. They just built a house and moved in so it was time for a new quilt! She likes blues so I picked a from Kate Spain for Moda named "Voyage" for the star colors and borders. The orange border is added because there is some orange, pint and turquoise in the fabric and it needed a bright color to make the squares pop.
This is my interpretation of a wave, of bringing about the change we want through the collective voice of people of all colors and nationalities. Uniting together in pursuit of a better tomorrow.
I picked up the pin stripped fabric at QuiltCon in Pasadena, CA in February. The small circles were fussy cut from a fabric I found at my amazing local quilt shop “Nimble Thimble” in Gilroy, CA. Hand quilted, in the ditch, to not distract from the simplicity of the design
The quilt is an altered pattern from Cozy Quilt Designs called "One Fish Two Fish" where I added an additional top sandy beach border and creatures all around the blue ocean borders.
The fish blocks are made from ombre fabric. The sea background is batik. The bath houses use selvedge to label them as well as the boat. There is a beach sign saying Life is Better in Bermuda. I printed this out with my printer on a Printer fabric sheet. The large turtle applique is made by me from turtle textured fabric. The creatures on the border were cut seperately from a seashell/sea creature panel that I happened to have in my stash.
This was made for my Godmother who is 91 and temporarily in a wheelchair as she heals. I had not seen her in many years and went to see her in her relocated home in FL. Upon a tour of the home I blurted out, "Well........I am going to make you a quilt!" She delighhtly said: "You are!!!!". Then to my surprise she said: " Make me 2 to match, there are 2 beds in my room!" That surprised me (in a good way). No one has ever had the hootspa to say "Make me 2" but at 91 I think they can have whatever they want! For some reason I remembered from childhood my mother saying: "Aunt Marty goes to Bermuda to play golf with Uncle Henry." Having not remembered a whole lot from childhood (you know how that is...) I marveled that I remembered that little Bermuda detail! The beach contains a sailboat that my Uncle Henry used to sail. Because they are now living the senior lifestyle, the quilt reveals the good old days for them in Bermuda, the Caribbean ocean and also the tropical fish and shells that float up on the beach. They were delighted with the quilt!
The first quilt I mailed her was of the same fabric and it was a simple strip quilt.
This table runner is the result of a day of play in my quilt room. Having nothing particular in mind other than to try the V block ruler by Deb Tucker of Studio 180 Designs (no affiliation), before I knew it I was appliqueing wool pumpkins to the border. This was such a fun project to work on. I hope a day of play is in your future too!
Fun to make. Fun to handle a :Jelly Roll that you love. For me, it is Morris reproductions fabric. I love the technique. Any Jelly Roll would make a beautiful quilt if you like the Jelly Roll. This woud be a fun class to teach to see all the quilts the students make.
This is my version of TQS BOM 2017 which I named "Fiesta Halo Medallion." It won first place in its category, Large Pieced Quilts, and a special ribbon for "Exemplary Piecing at the 2018 "Quilt Fiesta Santa Fe" in Santa Fe, New Mexico. For more pictures click: https://quiltsbyjoyce.blog/2018/10/18/fiesta-halo-medallion/ This quilt won an additional ribbon at the 2019 "Albuquerque Fiber Fiesta" for Best Movable Machine Quilted.
A selfie of my daughter and her friend dressed to participate in a samba parade during their student year in Chile was the inspiration for this fabric collage quilt. It was quite a challenge to recreate their faces and flowers from printed and batik fabrics, but I'm quite pleased with how it came out.
"Samba Selfie" was accepted into the 2018 Pacific International Quilt Festival and won a ribbon for Visual Impact in the New Quilts of Northern California exhibit there. It was on also display at the 2019 Road to California show, the 2019 Spring Paducah show, and the 2019 Houston International Quilt Festival.
BOM 2017...Remembering my quilt hero Sue Garman. This Quilt recieved ribbon at Gate City Quilt Guild Show 10/12/18.
My version of the 2017 BOM Halo Medallion by Sue Garman. I followed her color recipe but changed out the red for turquoise. Entered it in three quilt shows this year and won three ribbons!!
Absolutely white quilt with applique. It was stitched for the Ukrainian exhibition of textiles "Monochrome".
Great work with hand and machine stitch with white silk, gold and silver threads.
Application of birds - trapunto. Flowers are made in the author's technique. The edge of the quilt is made festoons.
Last May when my mother went into Hospice care I felt the need to make something simple and colorful. I found a pack of 5" sqaures in my stash and set to work. I made "X" blocks with the warm colors and "O" blocks with the cool colors. I added some embroidery on the sashings using a sparkle thread. When I showed it to my mom, she loved it. I hung it in her apartment where it stayed until she passed away in July. Whenever I would leave my mom, I always said to her, "Ok, mom, gimme a hug and a kiss."
This quilt won Best of Show at 2018 Capital of Texas Quiltfest. I used Sue Garmen's Halo Medallion Pattern from the BOM 2017. It was quilted by Angela McCorkle. I'm so excited and grateful for the support I received on your website. This is the first BOM I attempted. It was a learning opportunity and a real skill builder. Sue wrote beautiful patterns with great instructions. She will be missed.

This is the T-shirt quilt I made for my daughter. She was a cheerleader and in track. I made this as a graduation gift her senior year.
Thi is my version of the Quilt Show 2011 Block of the Month, started and piecing finished 2011 but the actual quilting started sometime after that but not finished until September 2018.
I loved this pattern when I saw it several years ago. Last Christmas my son asked me for "something from me that he could pull out every Christmas" and I knew immediately this pattern was THE ONE! I began in January and enjoyed the entire process, sewing on it mostly at our quilting group's regular Thursday gatherings. He will be given this right after Thanksgiving so he and his wife can enjoy. A lot of fun to make.
I found these little animals beautifuly odd . After researching tamarins, I learned that they live in South America and are becoming rare. This quilt is my atattempt to "capture" one. It was made for donation to Southwest Solutions to be auctioned.
