Family Album - Made to honor my family and ancestors. On the quilt back I embroidered my family tree dating back to 1717. On the front I recorded my marriage, my sons, my parents and my friends. This history of my family is recorded for future generations. I designed most of the blocks myself.
Living Free and Lovin' It - This small landscape quilt was begun at a class by Linda Schmidt at the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show in Hampton, VA. We hand painted our sky in class. The tree is free motion embroidered separately on dissolvable stabilizer with fabric snippets, then stitched on top.
Jill's Stars - The second quilt I made to give away. Neice Jill visited and learned to make one block with me. While looking through a book of antique quilts, Jill marked quilts that she liked. I learned that she liked stars, the color blue and richness of colors.
Tyler's Texas Chain - This was the first quilt I made to give away. I wanted to make a quilt to honor those made by my grandmother. I chose 1930s fabrics and white muslin to piece the top. Tyler loves her quilt. You can see her snuggled with it on the trip to Florida in 2003 when I gave the quilt to her at www.judymartin.com...look for Texas Chain by Cathy Waltz under viewer pictures.
Auntie Bean's Stalks - Scrappy yellow and black sunflowers on a background of reds, with green in the corners of the large blocks. These 17 inch blocks were cut with templates.
Uncle Sam Quilt - This was part of a quilt block exchange with my local quilt group. I added about half of the blocks in order to make the quilt big enough.
Country Christmas - This is a sampler quilt using traditional 12 inch and 6 inch quilt blocks. The quilting includes poinsettia, Christmas rose, basket floers, ruffle hearts, star in star, spool hearted, oak leaf.
Stars in a North Wind - This quilt was made using Sharyn Craig's method of doing Northwind blocks (If you ever have the opportunity to take on of her classes I highly recommend it--she's a great teacher!).
As I worked on the quilt I was reminded of a story my husband tells of his uncle Andy. He is quoted as saying. "A north wind is always cold, no matter what direction it comes from."
Grandmother - I donated this piece to Ami Simms' Art for Alzheimers auction in 2006. It was selected to be sold during the Houston Quilt festival and raised $45 for research. I checked the booth every day but never saw it; it must have sold early. I'd love to know who owns it but will probably never know.
There's No Place Like Home - This was an applique block of the month; I discovered I love applique! Each of the house numbers represent a house number I lived at or my mother or grandmother lived at.
In The Pink - Traditional pinwheel of half-square triangles using two fabrics, both commercial fabrics. I believe the pink fabric was a "Quilt For The Cure" fabric.
